There are a few special areas of Canvas where you WILL find that handy “+people” button (and this is good to know because there are definitely instances in which you need to be able to share Canvas space with students and faculty for a variety of reasons)!
It could take up to 24 hours for users to receive their invitations. Canvas will not consider the user to be enrolled—and won’t recognize the user anywhere in Canvas (this includes Conversations)—until the invitation has been accepted. If necessary, you can resend course invitations.
Until the user accepts the course invitation, the user’s status will display as pending. In order to add a participant to a course in Canvas the participant must have an active Canvas account. You will be notified during the process if Canvas is unable to locate an account for the participant.
If necessary , you can resend course invitations. If a user was added with the wrong role in the course, it is possible to edit a user’s role in a course. If a user was added to the wrong section in the course it is possible to edit a user’s section in a course.
Entries can be either separated by a comma or by a line break as shown in the search box. Note: If you have a list of users in a spreadsheet, multiple user Login ID’s can be copied and pasted from a column. Select the desired Role for the user. The most common are Teacher, TA or Student .
If the user does not have a username in the course's root account, the user's email address is linked to another user within the account , or the institution does not use delegated authentication if open registration is enabled, an account will be created for the user.
Sometimes a student may be using multiple email addresses within Canvas. If a student responds to an account invitation at one email address, but is logged in to Canvas using a different email address, the student will be asked if they want to link both addresses to the same account.
Users can only be added at the account level. Only root account admins can add users to an account. If you use SIS Imports, you do not need to add any users to your account, as they can be added through your student information system (SIS).
Once the user has an account, the user can also be added to a course. If a user is invited to a course without having an account, the user will have to create an account before accepting the course invitation.
To add enrollments in a course: Select the Add user (s) by method. Enter user information, separating user details with a comma. Select the course role for the users you are adding from the Role drop-down menu. Select the section to which the enrollments will belong (if applicable)
