In this example, the student took a Chemistry class at SBCC, which is a pre-requisite for his MCDB and EEMB classes. The student went to the Chemistry department representative to get this class approved as a pre-requisite. Chemistry could go to the "Y" screen and could enter that this course is equivalent to a UCSB course.
APPROVAL CODES An approval code will override all course limitations including, pre-requisites for the course, closed classes and full classes. Approval codes are distributed to the department teaching the course prior to registration.

A student wishing to add to the course must sign up for the waitlist. The watilist has an Auto Add feature that may be enabled by the department or instructor. If enabled, spaces which become available will be assigned to the student at the top of the waitlist. The student will be added and notified via email.
Approval codes are issued by the department of instructor of the course involved. The Office of the Registrar does not issue codes directly to students. The students will be directed back to the department. A code can only be used once, even by the same student.
*The Enrollment Code is the five-digit number listed just below the course department and number in GOLD, not an approval code.
Courses numbered XSB1 to XSB199 are UCSB regular session undergraduate courses open for enrollment by students through UCSB Professional and Continuing Education. Courses numbered XSB1 to XSB99 are lower division (freshman/sophomore); those numbered XSB100 to XSB199 are upper division (junior/senior).
That is difficult to predict. The number of students admitted from the waitlist varies greatly from year to year. Admission will depend on how many admitted students accept UCSB's offer of admission. Applicants who have chosen to be on our waitlist may or may not be offered admission.
In fall 2019, UCSB extended 8,863 waitlist offers to freshmen, from which 601 were offered admission and ultimately 251 enrolled. This massively expanded in fall 2020, when UCSB extended 9,883 waitlist offers to freshmen, from which 6,148 were offered admission and 1,358 of them enrolled.
15 unitsUndergraduate Students. For undergraduates, the average academic study load is 15 units per quarter; the minimum full-time study load is 12 units.
Registration Pass Times First pass time: Limited to no more than 10 units. Second pass time: Additional units may be added for a maximum of 15 units. Third pass time: Students continue to adjust their schedule during their third pass time up to the maximum allowed by their college.
UCSB is severely impacted, especially in the “PSY” catalog with over 2400+ undergrads pursuing our majors. There are not enough spaces for every student wishing to enroll. The class might just be “full” (all spots are taken for this course) or “closed” (meaning enrollments are no longer being accepted for this course).
Generally, upper-division courses are not recommended for freshman students. No graduate course credit is allowed for upper-division courses even if additional work is completed, but a limited number of upper-division courses may be applied in fulfillment of graduate degree requirements.
Fill out a 'Petition to Declare the Minor' form and then email the form to [email protected] . You can acquire a form by downloading the PDF version below. If your quarter of graduation changes after you submit this petition, you are required to inform the Student Affairs Office.

Students will not be added on a first come first serve basis. If you are in your last Pre-Comm class and your official status has not yet changed to Communication, you will not be auto-added, you will need to attend the first day of lecture to receive an add code (if space permits).
For all students - If you are not auto-added to a class before the start of the quarter, you will need to attend the first day of lecture to receive an add code (if space permits). Students still remaining on the waitlist once the quarter starts will be given add codes in class, based on major and unit standing.
The Department of Communication participates in the official UCSB waitlist both for lower and upper division communication courses. The waitlist is now coordinated with the GOLD system. It is important to note that because the waitlist is now coordinated with GOLD, the units of waitlisted coursework WILL count toward the student's maximum for ...
The waitlist has an Auto Add feature that may be enabled by the department or instructor. Only UD Comm majors will be able to be auto-added to an UD Comm course from the waitlist.
You will have about 4 days to fill out the form to be considered crashing. If you are granted an approval code, you will receive one via email starting July 7th. Once an approval code is distributed, you will have 24 hours to use it. If the code is not used by the deadline, it will be cancelled and given to the next student in line.
If you need to switch sections because of a scheduling conflict, it is at the discretion of your TA (s). Contact the TA of the section you are officially registered in and the TA of the section you would like to unofficially attend. The department is not involved in switching sections.
Students may use GOLD for schedule adjustments until the respective deadline for the session has passed. Important deadlines for each session can be viewed on the Deadlines Chart.
After the “Last Day to Add” date listed on the Deadlines chart for a session has passed, a petition or a course approval code (which can be obtained from the instructor) is required to add a course until the “Last Day to Add With Code” date for the session.
The last date to drop a course on GOLD is the drop deadline date listed for each session. (For refund deadlines see the “Drop With Full Refund” dates for each session on the Deadlines chart .)
PSY 1 and PSY 10A students are required to fulfill a research requirement. Students’ participation exposes them to the psychological research process, and it provides an essential portion of the subject pool for researchers at UCSB.
While in high school, students can begin preparing for the Psychological & Brain Sciences and Biopsychology majors by taking AP courses. Our department accepts AP scores of 3 or higher in: Psychology, Statistics, and Calculus. Please check the Advanced Placement Chart for a list of corresponding AP to UCSB courses.
Many students use Summer School to their advantage. Students can use Summer School sessions in a variety of ways. Some use the time for general education and/or elective courses while others take pre, prep, or major classes. Planning will help students identify which courses are most helpful for them to take while enrolled in summer school.
Upon completing all lower-division requirements, B.S. students must complete 52 upper-division units, while B.A. students must complete 40 upper-division units. B.S. students are required to choose an upper-division concentration and are required to take particular courses that pertain to that concentration.
If spots become available in a course, the system will automatically add students from the waitlists. The students who are added to the course will be notified if this happens.

A: PSTAT 5A is not open for credit to students who have Advance Placement Exam credit for Statistics; or completed PSTAT 5LS, Psychology 5, Economics 5, Sociology 3, EEMB 30, Communications 87, or other introductory statistics courses.
Courses from other universities will need to be reviewed by the PSTAT department for approval for either major substitutions or equivalencies within PSTAT classes. It is recommended students have the course reviewed prior to enrolling in the course, since approval for credit towards the major is not guaranteed.
A: No. When students are registering on GOLD they need to be careful since add codes are not given for students who accidentally drop a course. Since waitlists are automatic the available spot created by the drop will go automatically to the next student on the waitlist. Students will need to follow the waitlist instructions to try and add the course again, and follow the crashing procedure if they are not back in the class by the start of the quarter.
A: PSTAT will accept a change of major petition outside of the workshop if you provide a printout of your schedule proving that you have a conflict when you submit. You may turn the petition in to the front desk; just let them know you have a course conflict.
