At this time, Payne’s Valley has a pro shop and restaurant but no driving range, while Ozarks National has a practice facility but no onsite food. Payne’s Valley features wide fairways, broad earth shaping and over 450 feet of elevation change.
So while Payne's will measure 6,700 yards from the middle-back tees and tip out at over 7,200, it will play a few hundred yards shorter, with 450 feet of elevation change and much more of it going downhill than back up.
Typical fairways at most courses range between 35 and 50 yards wide. At Payne’s Valley, the short grass frequently extends 80 yards side to side. But don’t think all that width necessarily makes the fairways a pushover.

It doesn’t end on 18. If matches end all square on the 18th hole, not to worry. Payne’s Valley has a bonus 19th hole, a bet-settling par-3 designed by Big Cedar Lodge owner (and Bass Pro Shops founder) Johnny Morris.
Water, water, not exactly everywhere, but in a lot of places. Designed to celebrate its unspoiled surrounds, Payne’s Valley winds through a landscape beautified by natural water features, most notably, perhaps, on the 5th hole, where a dramatic bridge leads players over a lake on their path from tee to green.

The latest from Big Cedar is that Payne's Valley preview play will close on September 12th and will open the full 19-hole experience on September 24th. The current $195 preview green fee includes cart, range balls at Ozarks National and a baggie of snacks. Payne's 19-hole green fee for 2020 is $225.
Payne's Valley, Buffalo Ridge, Mountain Top, and Ozarks National all have Zoysia fairways and bent grass T1 championship greens. Top of the Rock uses bent grass tee boxes and bent grass T1 championship greens.
For guests that are not staying at Big Cedar Lodge, tee times can only be booked 30 days in advance of the day of play. During September and October, off-property guests can only book 14 days in advance.* For your convenience, you can reserve your tee-time with our self-service tee-time booking system.
Big Cedar Golf offers multiple practice facilities with access for golfers included in their greens fees. If guests wish to use the range without playing a round of golf, Buffalo Ridge offers daily access to the practice facilities for $40 per player. Below is a list of each practice amenity located at the different courses.

There are plenty of bunkers and slopes, and sometimes having all that width only makes it easier to overswing and send a foul ball into something nasty.

There’s a waterfall that cascades down the rocks behind the green. The green is basically a small rectangle, and it sits only a couple feet above the well-maintained water level thanks to how the pond drains down and away toward the right and the 18th green.
