Since the fifth season, competitors who complete the city finals automatically move on to the National Finals. Since the ninth season, the top two women in each city finals course also move on to compete on the National Finals course, even if they do not finish in the top 15 or 12.
Over the past 10 seasons, there is trend for City Qualifying courses to have less clears, more menacing obstacles, less ninjas attempt all the obstacles, and even those who are able to complete every obstacles take longer to do so. All in all, some pretty bleak trends for City Qualifiers.
Qualifiers were held in Los Angeles, San Antonio, Daytona Beach, Kansas City, Cleveland, and Denver. A record of 41 competitors successfully completed Stage 1 during the National Finals, including David Campbell, Ryan Stratis, Drew Drechsel, and Allyssa Beird, who became just the second woman to complete it.
The courses used for the Vegas finals are up for exactly 30 days: starting on day one, when pools are dug in the sand, and ending on day 30, when the last evidence of the production leaves.

Filming an episode of "American Ninja Warrior" can be grueling. Each episode is an hour and a half long. While the footage and interviews are filmed during the day, the actual competition is filmed in one night. Shooting takes place from 6 p.m. until everyone is finished running the course, which run as late as 5 a.m.
Do American Ninja Warrior contestants get to practice on the course? No, they do not. But they do get a demonstration. “They don't even see the obstacles until they walk out there, so it's stunning to see how successful they are, all things considered,” Storm told me.
Filming of Season 5 of Australian Ninja Warrior will occur throughout February and March, located at Qudos Bank Arena forecourt, Sydney Olympic Park. The filming will occur over 10 nights, with contingency plans in place if wet weather affects filming.

Of course, there are… things you can do outside of training to help alleviate your fear. Fact: They don't test for PEDs on American Ninja Warrior. You can't wear gloves out there, but you can take all the steroids and growth hormone you want.
Aside from the first season, if a competitor completes all four stages of the National Finals, they receive a cash prize. In the second season, the prize money was $250,000.

The two biggest differences between the National Finals and City Qualifier/City Finals rounds are: courses must be completed for ninjas to advance, and that ninjas are racing against the clock. These two features haven't changed over the shows 10 seasons.
James McGrath and Brent Steffensen are the only ninjas to complete Stage 2 more than once, without doing so in back to back Seasons.
Of that 24, 17 only did so once. Sean Bryan, David Campbell, Brent Steffensen. James McGrath, and Paul Kasemir all completed Stage 2 twice. While Drew Drechsel did so three times, and Joe Moravsky completed Stage 2 four times!
Cities compete to be included in American Ninja Warrior, for both the exposure and economic impact. Once selected, possible locations— usually with visually striking backdrops —are scouted.
Most of the contestants are cast by produces, having applied to the show. Besides their athleticism, they’re cast for the usual reality TV reasons, such as their personal stories. Many contestants now return to the show year after year.
So many of the American Ninja Warrior runs end in failure, most of which end that contestant’s chance that season, and the show itself didn’t even have a winner until last season.
