My evidence professor, who was great by the way, told our class to ignore this distinction as they both functionally have the same result (i.e., they are both admissible evidence).

I was looking at an evidence question on Themis' site, and it says "After the prosecution had laid a proper foundation, the agent testified . . . ." Does this simply mean the prosecutor followed the correct procedure to introduce the evidence in question?
