How to Become ServSafe Certified. The first step in getting your ServSafe certification is to create an account on the ServSafe website. Once you have a ServSafe login, you can then buy the program or course you want. You have the option to take an online course or to enroll in a class with an instructor.
Can I take my ServSafe test online? Both ServSafe coursework and exams are available in person and online. Note that online exams for the Food Handler and Alcohol/Primary do not require a proctor. All other exams, whether print or online, do require a proctor and would need to be taken at a test center.
Knowing your exam date in advance will help you plan your learning schedule. View the course in several short sessions each no longer than 1 hour. ServSafe Manager Online Course: 8-10 hours in length. ServSafe Alcohol Online Course: approximately 4 hours in length.
Length of Exam The ServSafe Food Handler assessment is a 40-question, non-proctored test. It has no time limit, meaning test-takers may complete at their own pace. On average, test-takers work through the exam within 90 minutes.
75%Certification Process A passing score is 75% or higher. This is obtained by answering at least 60 out of 80 questions correctly. The exam has 90 questions; however there are 10 pilot questions that are for research purposes only.
Certification Process The National Restaurant Association recognizes the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification for a five-year period. The ServSafe Alcohol, ServSafe Allergens and ServSafe Food Handler Certificates are recognized for a three-year period. However, state or employer requirements can vary.

Single-use gloves are just that- made for a single use. The longer gloves are worn, the more likely their effectiveness as a barrier will deteriorate. Employees should ideally replace their gloves every two hours at minimum to guard against possible unseen punctures.
Online Courses expire after one year from the date of purchase or 60 to 90 days from date of launch/course completion, depending on which course is purchased.
