What is the advantage of nitrox over air? Recreational Nitrox which may contain anything between 21 and 40 percent of oxygen, has a lower percentage of nitrogen than air. This allows divers to extend their no-decompression limits/ dive time by reducing the amount of nitrogen that is absorbed. When should you use nitrox for diving?
While there isn’t any proof that nitrox will make you feel better after a dive, many divers claim to feel a difference. For those who do, using nitrox is well worth it. These advantages benefit any diver, but those who dive often will notice them more.
What is NITROX
Is a nitrox certification “worth it”? If you fancy staying down longer and getting back in the water sooner, then yes; getting nitrox certified is worth it. You can take more photos, wave to more turtles, and spend more time exploring at depth. Many divers wait too long to try nitrox.
Your PADI Dive Shop will provide dedicated nitrox cylinders for your enriched air dives. Your instructor will also provide an oxygen analyzer. It's possible to earn your nitrox certification in just one day.
Complete your course online. The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox course is PADI's most popular specialty course and can now be taught and certified entirely online. The open water dives for this course are optional, and therefore can be conducted, if desired, at a later date.

Once the student successfully completes all three components of their training, they will have earned their PADI Open Water or Junior Open Water Scuba Diver certification. Is good for life!
You must complete a course and get certified to use Nitrox anywhere in the world and enjoy it's benefits. All major dive agencies have their version of the course, and any certificate will allow you to get Nitrox almost everywhere.
However, when diving on nitrox, the potential for oxygen toxicity lurks well within the depth range of recreational diving: the maximum depth on 32 percent nitrox is 121 feet; on 36 percent nitrox, it's just over 100 feet. Many divers regularly cruise at these depths and even deeper without giving it a second thought.
Once you have completed all required training sessions, final exam and open water training dives, your SSI Training Center will issue your digital certification card which will show up instantly on your MySSI App. We congratulate you on your accomplishment and welcome you to SSI's global diving community.
Divers who use nitrox absorb less nitrogen, making them stay underwater for longer. They're also less likely to get decompression sickness. It's worth noting that older divers and those who've experienced decompression sickness or physical injuries can reduce no-decompression limits with the gas.

If you head to your local dive shop or scuba retailer, it should cost you around $5 to fill a scuba tank. If you refill your tank at a scuba shop, you may also be able to get your tank pressure tested as well. If you pay for the cylinder testing (usually around $50), you may get the air fill for free.
Q: Does nitrox cost more than a regular air fill? A: Yes. The average cost for an aluminum 80 cu/ft 3000 psi, filled with up to nitrox 32% will cost around $20.00 and 36% cost $25.00. Larger tanks 100cu/ft will cost around $25.00.
