Courses taken in the Fall 1997 term and subsequently thereafter are subject to the repeat course surcharge. How did this rule come about?
The cost of the examination is $115 (this includes a $50 fee payable to BYU (FLATS) and an administrative fee of $65 to FIU). FIU has minimum scores and GPA level for automatic admission. For fall entry, the minimums are a 3.3 GPA and an SAT of 1530 or an ACT of 22. (These minimums are much higher if you're graduating high school a year early -- at least a 4.0 GPA and an SAT of 1950 or an ACT of 29 required.)

Your educational expenses can be categorized as either direct costs or indirect costs. Things you pay directly to FIU such as tuition and fees, books and supplies (if bought from the university bookstore), and on-campus housing and meal plans are considered direct costs.

Test-takers must register at least 48 hours before the intended test date. Register for the FIU ACT On-Campus test. After completing the registration process, check your email for the test registration confirmation sent to you by the registration software (RegisterBlast).
ACT On-Campus Testing is conducted at FIU for students who are applying to FIU and are unable to take the ACT on a national test date. Test takers who do not intend to attend FIU are not allowed to take the ACT On-Campus at this institution.
Prior to the summer of 2018, ALEKS was the primary tool used to appropriately place students into introductory math courses. Beginning in the summer of 2018, however, FIU has adopted a new math placement model (MPM version 1.0) that replaces ALEKS as the primary placement tool.

Participants do not have to register for a CLEP exam, however, to earn college credit upon completion of the course, participants must take the corresponding exam and achieve a qualifying score (CLEP-notes, 2016). Always consult with your Academic Advisor prior to taking a CLEP exam.
When to Register. The best time to register is on your enrollment date. Incoming freshman/transfer students can register during orientation. Classes fill up fast so pick classes early. After the add/drop period, any course that is dropped or withdrawn will remain on the student’s transcripts as dropped (DR) or withdrawn (WI) and the student will be financially liable. See Drop or Withdraw from Classes for more details on dropping classes after the add/drop period.
Most holds can be solved by submitting the necessary documents online. Co-requisites/Prerequisites. Some classes require you to take other classes before or at the same time as that course. A prerequisite course must be completed successfully before to enrolling in a particular course.
During the Add/Drop period (see these Academic Calendar for dates), students can add or drop courses without incurring financial liability and without it appearing on their permanent academic record. Students often use this period to swap classes, try new classes or get into classes using the wait list.
Confirmation by a physician required. Petitions can take 6-8 weeks to get approval. For specific information on the dropping and withdrawing policy refer to the Office of the Registrar’s University Catalog. Submit a Student Petition.
But dropping a course can have serious consequences. Classes officially dropped after the add/drop period result in: A grade recorded as DR or W on your transcript (see Grading System for more). Financial liability for all dropped courses.
Petitions are approved in the following circumstances: Death of a student or immediate family member (parent, spouse, child, sibling, or grandparents). Death certificate required. Call to active military service. Copy of orders required. Illness of student of such severity or duration to preclude completion of courses.
If you do not complete all of the courses for which you were scheduled to attend during the semester, your financial aid award may be reduced or canceled, and you may be required to return a portion of the aid awarded to you.
But there may come a time when you will need to drop a class for one reason or another. If you drop a class before the add/drop deadline, there are no consequences as long as you maintain a full-time course load.
Students attending other institutions (universities or colleges) can take classes at FIU while they are home for the summer or any other time. Since these students plan to transfer classes from FIU back to their primary institution, they are classified as transients by the State of Florida.
