Intensive English courses support students to develop skills to succeed in a wide variety of academic studies or professional settings in English speaking countries around the world.
This English class is designed to help non-native English speakers gain confidence in English, introduce them to local customs, and communicate more easily in their everyday lives.
No TOEFL Required! Students who successfully complete the Academic Bridge level of English instruction at CELAC do not need an English proficiency English exam score to continue with full-time degree status at UNM.
Program participants attend ONLINE asynchronous classes for 30 days anytime, understand the format of the TOEFL ITP test and each section individually, and develop reading, grammar, and listening skills required for success on the TOEFL ITP test.

NMSU requires a score of 520 paper-based or 68 internet-based or better on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), for all international students, both nondegree and degree seeking.
Students transferring from a junior college, or university in the United States who have earned a minimum of 30 acceptable semester credits (45 acceptable quarter credits) with a GPA of 2.0 or better (acceptable credit means classes that require a high proficiency in both written and oral English).

Scholarships will be awarded with a nomination priority deadline of February 28th for the fall admission semester and September 30th for the spring admission semester.
The scholarship may be renewed for up to two years for master degree students and four years for doctoral degree students. The International Amigo Scholarship entitles awarded international students to a waiver of the non-resident portion of tuition. Students must meet renewal requirements each semester.
