To ride a motorcycle in Idaho, a valid driver's license (Class A, B, C or D) and a motorcycle endorsement (M) on that driver's license are required.
In order to obtain your “M” endorsement, you need to pass a both written knowledge test and a motorcycle skills test administered by the Idaho Transportation Department's Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The skills test portion can be waived upon successful completion of a qualifying STAR course.
A motorcycle license is similar to a driver's license, but meant only for motorcycles. An endorsement, however, is an addition to your current driver's license that allows you to legally operate a motorcycle, as well as an automobile.
A motorcycle may share a lane only with one other motorcycle. Lane sharing (lane splitting/filtering) with any other vehicle is illegal in Idaho.
License cost a $15 motorcycle permit fee, which is good for 180 days; a $3 fee for the written knowledge exam; a $10 fee of the driving skills exam.
Idaho Motorcycle Helmet Law Anyone under 18 who drives or rides on a motorcycle in Idaho must wear a helmet of a type and quality equal to or better than the standards established for helmets by the Director of Motor Vehicles.
If you took training before each licence test, you'd need to allow 3 – 5 days for the licence training and a half-day for the test. This would mean you'd spend around 13 – 21 days in motorcycle training and four days testing over the five years of moving from CBT to full A licence.
Make sure the motorcycle is in first gear. As you get ready to take off, move your right foot to the rear foot brake while keeping your left foot as solidly planted as possible. Afterwards, you can release the right-hand brake and focus on engaging the clutch and throttle.
Riders can also take a weekend-long motorcycle instruction course, which often includes the written test and road test. This is the quickest option for most people, but the courses aren't cheap. The price ranges from $200 – $300, and they're usually mandatory for riders under 18.
About The Power Restriction You can take your A2 motorcycle test on either a manual or automatic motorbike. If you choose take your test on a manual motorcycle, you can ride either manual motorcycles or automatics, however if you take your test on an automatic, you will be limited to automatics.
This depends on your current riding standards, and the speed at which you learn. Can I use my own bike for test preparation ? Yes, we would encourage you to use the bike you would be taking your test on, but there is no problem hiring a machine for both the test preparation and for taking the test itself.
