Owners of Suffolk County-issued Food Manager’s certificates can renew their certificates in a shortened (2 half day) class by registering for the Renewal course within 90 days following expiration of their current certificate. The Renewal class is offered monthly and taught in our Yaphank offices. An exam is given on the second class day.
You'll receive a confirmation number that you must bring with you to the exam, along with a driver's license or other official photo identification. A fee of $40 is charged to all students to take the final exam. Payment for the final exam must be made when scheduling an exam date.
The final exam is given at our Yaphank office. You must take the final exam within 90 days of completing the online course.
If you fail to answer all quiz questions correctly, you are required to spend an additional 5 minutes reviewing the lesson before taking the quiz again.
The course is divided into 16 lessons, each of which will take you about 1/2 hour to finish. There is a short quiz at the end of each section. You must spend a minimum of 5 minutes reviewing a lesson before you can take a quiz.
If you fail to achieve the minimum passing score, you can register for the Limited Oral Exam, or retake the Online Limited Course. There is no additional fee to take the online course and exam a second time, nor the oral exam. After you pass the final exam, your certificate will be provided to you immediately.

Limited Class. Individuals who operate or are employed by ice cream stores, taverns, hot dog or ice cream trucks, and snack bars with minimal food preparation may take the “Limited” Food Manager class, which is a 3 hour classroom class offered once a month.
Suffolk County recognizes food safety certificates issued by entities that offer training equivalent to its own, and accepts valid certificates issued within the prior 3 years by an approved government agency or private corporation.
The Student Activity Fee provides for social, cultural, athletic, and related activities for full and part-time students and is non-refundable on or after the first day of the session. Maximum $90 per semester.
The Records Maintenance Fee is a non-refundable fee that provides for the cost of managing and maintaining all student records. This fee is assessed on a per semester basis to students taking courses at the Ammerman, Eastern, and Grant campuses. Maximum $36 per semester.
For tuition purposes, Non-Residents are defined as non-New York State residents, or New York State residents who have not resided in Suffolk County for six months. Note that New York State residents of other counties may have the non-resident tuition rate waived by submitting a Certificate of Residency from their home county prior to registration.
The Tuition Deposit is a non-refundable payment that is required from students who are admitted to programs at the College. The deposit will be applied to the payment of tuition in the first semester that the student registers following the payment of the deposit.
The Technology Fee is a dedicated fee charged to students taking credit courses offered by the College. The fee is committed to fund technology and equipment; it is non-refundable on or after the first day of the session.
The College charges full-time tuition to students who take 12 or more credits per semester. Students who take fewer than 12 credits are charged on a per credit basis.
The Physical Education Service Fee partially provides for the extra costs of special supplies, equipment and services associated with certain courses. Course sections as outlined in the Class Schedule Search are marked to show what fees are applicable for a particular section.
