As an active flight instructor, you are required to complete TSA security awareness training within 60 days of hire or beginning flight training as a CFI, and then complete recurrent training annually in the same month as the initial training.
The TSA rule requires flight schools and flight instructors to provide security awareness training to employees who have direct contact with a flight school student (regardless of citizenship or nationality) and to issue and maintain records of this training.

When a pilot visits his or her physician for the BasicMed examination, the pilot information and medical history portion of medical exam checklist completed by the pilot will list any prescription or non-prescription medication that the pilot currently uses, as well as information such as the medication name and dosage. The physician will then address, as medically appropriate, any medications the individual is taking and discuss the medication’s potential to interfere with the safe operation of an aircraft or motor vehicle.
Armed security officers must also successfully complete recurrent training every five years. An armed security officer could be reduced to inactive status for failure to comply with the above mentioned guidelines and will not be allowed to serve as an armed security officer on any general aviation or charter flights.
Active crew members of all domestic scheduled carriers are eligible for the training program. The Crew Member Self Defense Training Program provides four-hours of training to prepare active crew members of all domestic scheduled carriers for potential physical altercations both on and off the aircraft.
To be eligible, you must: 1 Participate voluntarily. 2 Be a U.S. citizen or national. 3 Be at least 21 years of age. 4 Be free from any emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the requirements of the position. 5 Have successfully completed a basic law enforcement training certificated program conducted by an entity authorized to train persons to perform as a law enforcement officer. 6 Be an active law enforcement officer in good standing; a qualified retired officer; or a qualified former officer in good standing each requiring a minimum of four years law enforcement experience. 7 Not have been terminated for cause by a previous law enforcement employer or have had an approval or authorization revoked by TSA, or been subject to a serious disciplinary action by a previous employer. 8 Not have had a certification revoked by TSA.

When the interim rule was first issued, it required every person to prove his or her citizenship status (including U.S. citizens) prior to undertaking flight training in an aircraft weighing 12,500 pounds or less. Additionally, all foreign flight students were required to complete a background check process with TSA. Not only did the rule apply to flight training, but also to recurrent training under Part 61. This meant that pilots would have to prove citizenship, and aliens submit background checks, for flight reviews, instrument proficiency checks, and aircraft checkouts.
The flight training approval expires 545 days from the date of original submission to the AFSP. Extensions of training will not be granted under this policy. Candidates must submit a new training request at this time, regardless if the training is toward the same certificate or type rating.
Under this exemption, flight schools and independent instructors are allowed to complete their first recurrent security awareness training within 18 months of their initial security awareness training.
TSA interprets the definition of "recurrent training" to NOT include any flight review, proficiency check, or other check whose purpose is to review rules, maneuvers, or procedures or to demonstrate a pilot's existing skills.
This rule also requires a flight school to establish and maintain the following records for one year after an individual no longer is a flight school employee: (1) a copy of the document issued to the employee when he or she received initial training and each time he or she received recurrent training; (2) a copy of the alternative initial security awareness training program, if the flight school used in the past or currently uses an alternative program instead of the TSA program.
According to the TSA rule, flight school employees (and flight instructors) not in compliance may be subject to civil penalties under federal regulations. TSA may also deal with violators by issuing verbal warnings and/or written notices. TSA considers each day a person operates in violation to the requirements of the rule an additional occurrence subject to penalty.

Undergraduate students enrolled in Purdue Global's LRC100 course will pay a $1,500.00 assessment fee when they submit their portfolio for evaluation. This nonrefundable fee may be covered by financial aid.
All students enrolled in a standard undergraduate program are required to pay a $345.00 resource fee per term ($250.00 for military veterans and spouses). U.S. military servicemembers and residents of Indiana enrolled in a standard program are exempt from the resource fee.
Undergraduate students enrolled in EL206 will pay a $1,500.00 course fee. This nonrefundable fee will be collected as follows: 50% after add/drop week and 50% upon submission of a portfolio for evaluation. Undergraduate students who withdraw from the course after add/drop week, withdraw from Purdue Global before completing the course, fail the course, or do not submit a portfolio after completion of the course will not be charged the remaining $750.00. This fee may be paid using financial aid funds and can be incorporated into the student’s monthly payment plan.

The school must enroll at least five students in each AOPA course to be taught. If teaching AOPA’s curriculum at a given grade level for the first time, the instructor must participate in AOPA's professional development. This training must occur prior to the start of the school year.
AOPA also commit s to supporting schools in starting and growing successful aviation programs through the implementation of the AOPA High School Aviation STEM Curriculum. In return, participating schools, administrators, and teachers commit to meeting certain simple requirements set by AOPA.
For AOPA to offer the curriculum at no charge, it needs to use funding sources to pay for its development. These sources often require information (how many students, gender, ethnicity, etc.) about who is using the curriculum. This application will serve as an agreement that the school will provide this data to AOPA, as well as agree to other requirements for its use.
The ninth-grade course will provide the foundation for advanced exploration in the areas of flying, aerospace engineering, and unmanned aircraft systems. Students will learn about engineering practices, problem-solving, and the innovations and technological developments that have made today’s aviation and aerospace industries possible.

In the Introduction to Flight Course, students pursuing the pilot and UAS tracks will take a closer look at the aircraft they may one day operate. Students will begin with an exploration of the types of aircraft in use today before going on to learn how aircraft are made and how they fly. Students will understand how aircraft are categorized, be able to identify their parts, and learn about aircraft construction techniques and materials. They will gain an in-depth understanding of the forces of flight—lift, weight, thrust, and drag—including how to make key calculations. They will then touch on aircraft design, looking at stability, aircraft controls, and maneuvering flight. The course will conclude with a focus on career skills related to these topics.
The application process is not competitive and all applications that meet the requirements as outlined in the Selection Criteria section below will be approved.
