The purpose of these guidelines is to share information with colleges/divisions in order to allow greater flexibility and transparency of NMSU’s compensation practices for regular exempt staff. The guidelines were also developed to assist HR Services in responding to previous audit concerns and in documenting compensation practices to ensure consistency in their administration.
Minimum Wage Increase – Effective January 1, 2021. In 2019, the New Mexico Legislature passed an amendment to the New Mexico Minimum Wage Act, which enforces annual increases to the minimum wage. At this time, there are no changes to the NMSU regular pay scales.
Retroactive adjustments to rate of pay, wages or salary for work already performed are not permitted under New Mexico law. The only retroactive payments that will be allowed are those required to remediate a prior miscalculation, or other administrative error.

A late registration fee of $25 is imposed if registration has not been completed before the late-registration period begins. Failure to make scheduled payments with the University Accounts Receivable on due dates will result in additional liability.
Tuition is approved by the NMSU Board of Regents annually in April for the next academic year. Approved rates become effective the following Summer, Fall, and Spring.
Additional fees may apply depending on classification, number of credits enrolled, specific course delivery methods and other course specific requirements. It is recommended that students review their Class Schedule and Statement of Account immediately following registration for a full detail of all tuition and fee charges assessed.

Room and Board will be determined according to information received from your FAFSA and your home campus. Room and board rates are based on a survey of apartments, dorms, meal plans and food expenses located in the vicinity of your home campus. Students may be ineligible for the Room component of Student Budget if you receive a military housing stipend or are independent and live at home. You will be ineligible for both a Room and Board component if you are enrolled less than half-time (6 hours for undergraduates and 5 hours for graduates) or if you are currently incarcerated.
