Not what it used to be. Salaries are 2 decades behind, and pay for adjuncts such as myself is variant and at times you don't know how long or how many weeks they will retain, If you asked they feel anoyed. It could be 3 weeks salary hold everytime a semester starts.

Don't go for any administrative/management positions. Faculty gain protection through the union. No training, no set protocol, each campus and department has their own. They poster as progressives but are very closed minded and many heads of department are racists.

Lots of flexibility but poor pay

Adjunct professors are paid very poorly. MDC actually pays the highest rate for adjuncts but it's still low. Most of us have PhDs but with the glut of people with advanced degrees, a full-time job in academia is hard to find.

If the pay wasn't so awful..

I'd love it there! But as an adjunct professor, I work my butt off and don't make enough to survive. So much of my labor is unpaid, and in the department I'm teaching in, I work only slightly less than a full-time professor and get paid a fraction of the salary.

Teach college? YES!!

I love it here. Only problem is I'm an adjunct and want to be full-time. I teach/have taught high school and college. College is BETTER!!! I strongly encourage you to pursue if you have never tried it.
