Some institutions have limitations on how many classes an adjunct may teach at an institution. This is because if they are teaching 3–4 classes per semester , they clearly should be paid a full-time salary. Therefore most adjuncts have to cobble together multiple classes from multiple institutions.
This is a false premise. A college class meets for 15 weeks, 2.5 hours a week, plus a final exam that is about 2.5 hours. A grand total of about 40 hours of classroom time. Even if you spend one hour in preparation for every hour of class time that means you get about $3,000 for about 80 hours of work.
