20To determine which of these is coarse thread and which is fine, simply take the TPI number (the 20 and the 28) and compare. Remember a coarse thread means the threads are bigger so less will be able to fit within an inch so the 20 means the fastener is coarse thread and the 28 means the fastener is a fine thread.Jul 23, 2018

US Threads Per Inch Table. * 12tpi is the UNF standard however 14tpi is far more common in actual use.
Measuring Imperial Thread Pitch As the name suggests, TPI is measured by counting the number of thread peaks along a 1 inch length. The TPI measurement is then often affixed to the diameter of the thread to form a common imperial thread size, e.g. '1/4-20', which would denote a ¼ inch diameter, and 20 threads per inch.

Blades are also described by the number of teeth per inch (TPI). Blades have 14, 18, 24, 32 teeth per 25mm (inch). A blade with 14 TPI is coarse whilst a blade with 32 TPI is very fine. Blades eventually wear or break and need replacing.
TPI stands for Threads Per Inch, a count of the number of threads per inch measured along the length of a fastener. TPI is used only with American fasteners. Metric Fasteners use a thread Pitch.
All sizes 1⁄4 inch and larger use 26 threads per inch (tpi), making them similar to 1 mm ISO threads, which are 25.4 per inch and also run at a 60 degrees angle. It was originally used with both bicycles and motorcycles. However it is now believed to be obsolete in motorcycle manufacture.
