The EMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 40 hours of continuing education to recertify. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component.

Students enrolled in this class will receive updated training on all necessary emergency medical care skills including adult and pediatric education with a minimum of two hours in pediatric emergencies. Every two years, EMT’s must provide the certifying authority with proof of a 32-hour approved refresher course with 2-hour pediatrics.

After three unsuccessful examination attempts, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic candidates must submit official documentation verifying the completion of a remedial training program.

In order to renew an EMT certification prior to expiration, you must submit proof of either 24 hours of approved EMS continuing education (CE) or an approved 24 hour refresher course certificate taken within the past two years.
"Inactive status" means that you are not affiliated with an agency because your Training Officer or Medical Director did not sign off on your application. "Inactive" providers are still recognized as being Nationally Certified!
