In this course, the student will be introduced to the basics of IPV, as well as a number of different theories that have been used to explain it. Issues related to victims, offenders, and the effects of exposure to IPV on children will also be examined. Against this backdrop, we will explore various strategies for ending and preventing IPV. Both clinical and policy options will be addressed. This course will help students think critically about what it means to end intimate partner violence on both individual and macro levels of intervention and change.
The federal system of policy and legislative process also will be examined. The second aim is to develop an appreciation and understanding of the range of social work involvement in the policy/legislative process.
