Multilingual Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Sheltered instruction is intended to make instruction in academic content areas more accessible to EL students. The language of instruction is English. The student also receives ESL instruction, which is designed to teach English to EL students.
Requirements and Routes to SEI Endorsement. As of July 1, 2016, all Core Academic Teachers of ELLs and all administrators who are supervising and evaluating core academic teachers of ELLs must hold the SEI Endorsement or obtain the SEI Endorsement within one year.

If you have already submitted for credit and are looking for a transcript, please follow the directions below.
Grades will be made available to students once Westfield State University receives an official grade. However, documentation from your district or instructor may be required.
Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) is an approach to teaching academic content in English to ELLs. Generally, but not always, ELLs are in the same classrooms as native English-speaking students.
You may qualify for the SEI Teacher endorsement through one of the following pathways: 1 Enroll in and successfully complete a for-cost course sponsored by a DESE-approved vendor; or 2 Complete a Massachusetts-approved educator preparation program for the applicable license; or 3 Take and pass the SEI MTEL; or 4 Hold an ESL/ELL license in Massachusetts; or 5 Possess a Bachelor's degree in a DESE-approved major or DESE-approved graduate-level training. *If you believe that you may qualify for the Endorsement by virtue of having the appropriate degree or graduate level training, you may submit materials to the Office of Educator Licensure for review.
Individual teachers complete this set of KTL courses will receive 23 PDPs that can be used to meet the MA DESE requirement of 15 PDPs Related to Strategies for Students With Disabilities. At the completion of the online courses, participants download a PDP certificate.
KTL’s literacy PD focuses on comprehension and vocabulary instruction. Our PD draws from the research base regarding effective literacy instruction for English Language Learners. Many of the instructional practices incorporated in the MA SEI Endorsement Course are incorporated into KTL PD. As a result, many of the teaching practices from the SEI Course are reinforced in KTL PD.
Keys to Literacy offers a set of online PD courses that can be used to meet the MA DESE requirements for 15 PDPs Related to Strategies for Students With Disabilities. The online training consists of modules that include interactive activities and video clips from live training. The online training is designed for use with our training books. The online courses also include “use your content” activities, which allow users to generate lesson plans using the instructional practices. Participants learn how to teach literacy skills as Tier I instruction for all students as well as how to differentiate instruction and use scaffolds to provide Tier 2 instruction for students who struggle because of a reading disability. The content of this PD is based on instructional practices developed for students with reading disabilities in inclusive classrooms.

All educators as well as ELL and Special Ed educators can take these 15 hour/PDP courses and count them toward their required content PDPs for their primary licenses.
