Graduate students enrolled in nine or more credits during a regular semester or five credits during a summer session are considered full-time students. All students registered for fewer than those specified totals are classified as part-time students, unless they hold an assistantship postiion at UMKC.
Limitation on the size of the academic load for which graduate students can register might be imposed by the dean or faculty advisor. Generally, students on probation are required to restrict the academic program to a minimum full-time load until they have returned to good standing.

New Student Orientation for all students entering in the Spring Semester (both freshmen and transfers) will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
Students entering in the Spring Semester. Orientation is not required for students entering in the Spring Semester, though we do offer a Spring Orientation session that is highly encouraged for first-time college students and transfer students with 24 or fewer credit hours.
Transfer students with more than 24 credits are not required to attend Orientation, though it is highly encouraged. All transfer students are required to meet directly with their academic advisor (s) before scheduling their first semester of classes.
Once an Orientation session reaches capacity, registration for that date will close and no additional students will be able to register. Because of this, we recommend registering for Orientation early to ensure you can attend on your preferred date.
