However, a full CPR course that teaches mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is highly recommended and doesn’t take that much longer. This is the American Heart Association CPR class offered by most fire departments that results in a CPR certification for lay rescuers.
Fire department CPR classes give you all of the tools you need to successfully perform CPR on a person who needs it. What are these tools, though, and who can use them? Let’s take a look. Which fire departments offer CPR classes? The first important thing to note is that fire department led CPR classes vary when it comes to availability.

Cardiac arrests are more common than you think, and they can happen to anyone at any time. Nearly 326,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually, and 88 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home. Many victims appear healthy with no known heart disease or other risk factors. Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack.

In 1955, a toy maker named Asmund Laerdal created what we now know as the CPR doll. Asmund wanted his mannequin to have a natural appearance. Remembering a mask on the wall of his grandparents’ house many years earlier, he decided that the L’Inconnue de la Seine would become the face of Resusci Anne.
The Story Behind Resusci Anne. Pictured below is the death mask of a young woman who drowned in the River Seine in the 1880s. As was customary in those days, her corpse was put on display in the Paris mortuary in the hope that someone might recognize her and claim her body.
