Fairchild Wheeler offers two challenging 18 hole golf courses . The Red Golf Course demands accurate tee shots which will leave most golfers with mid to short irons for their approach shots. Don’t let that fool you because the Red Golf Course has tough greens that will make most golfers double and triple check the breaks.
The Red Golf Course features 6,568 yards of golf from the Championship Tees for a par 72. The course rating is 71.0 and the slope is 124.
Besides Two Great Golf Courses, Fairchild Wheeler has so much more to offer. Fairchild Wheeler is home of the First Tee of Connecticut and Nike Junior Summer Golf Camps. The Golf Shop is fully stocked and the wide open driving range allows you to hit short irons up to your driver. After playing 9 holes stop by Vazzy’s snack bar for a quick bite or enjoy a few drinks and some happy hour pizza in Tommy’s grill after your round.
The 14th fairway on the black course was having drainage construction done and was very wet.
The bunkers are in excellent shape - very consistent sand depth. And for a local course, the greens are in good shape and run true.
I played the red course, which was in aweful shape this spring. It has been improved tremendously!! The greens are actually in very good shape, although the fairways are a mixed bag. Overall, I think it was a very good course for the $$$.
This course has run it's course. The fairways on the Black Course are among the worst that you will find anywhere. While the greens are very good, it does not make up for the poor fairways and lack of grooming. All of the bunkers are also generally out of sand and are never groomed by the staff. To complete the awful experience, try interfacing with the miserable old hack in the proshop who is on loan from the DMV.
We play at “The Wheel” which has two courses, fondly referred to as, “The Red and The Black”. This 36-hole facility offers a driving range, practice facilities, electric carts, Junior Golf Program, PGA Golf Lessons, Golf Shop, and a 19th hole – Vazzy’s Restaurant. Located at 2390 Easton Turnpike, Fairfield, CT.
