After an exausting and enjoying experience of doing the open water portion of rescue, I am at a loss of how or if I should log my dives. We were in 6ft waves in Lake Ontario this last weekend 60* water and 50* air tempatures. I had to pull an "unresponsive" diver that was twice my weight all by myself in strong surf.

Most of the work I did was on the surface plus one true dive. I just logged one. However, it's all personal preference. Do you log bounces? I had a dive in very poor vis and high current that required me to surface like 6 times to get my bearings....but in my book that was just one dive.

I did not log my PADI Rescue class as dives but recorded them in my log book with a description of what I did. These all occurred between dives 116 and 117 on Grand Cayman in March, 2005. I'm glad I have the record.

I wasn't thinking about how I'd log it until we finished. I spent the vast majority of the time on the surface, some on shore and a bit on the bottom in 20fsw. I logged the whole day as one dive just for the heck of it. I wasn't aware PADI required 4 OW dives during Rescue course. I thought it was 4 Scenarios.

Note that DD quoted the 2004 IM which outlined how to log the scenarios. When I did my Rescue (2008?) that is how we logged them.

Rescue Diver Classroom

The rescue diver classroom sessions focus on techniques that you will use in the water to assist a diver in need of various types of help. In addition to these techniques you will learn situational awareness to identify a problem before it occurs. Up until the rescue course divers are taught to focus on themselves and their buddy.

Rescue Diver Pool Session

Once you get into the pool you will practice the skills you read about. These skills range from dealing with a panicked diver, an unconscious diver, and also how to begin providing first aid. Open Water Rescue Dives

The open water rescue dives is where you will be challenged the most. You will again practice skills learned in the pool in an open water environment. Rescue Diver Written Exam

The rescue diver exam will require some study. Up until this point many people are able to complete their knowledge exam requirements with minimal study. The rescue exam is more detailed.
