All students admitted to UF as freshmen may drop two courses in their first 60 hours attempted at UF, and two more in their second 60 hours attempted at UF. Attempted hours include all hours taken at UF, except dropped or withdrawn courses. Incoming credits (AP, IB, AICE, or dual enrollment) and transfer credits do not count toward the 60 hours.
Students in CLAS may drop two courses prior to attempting 60 UF hours and an additional two courses after attempting 60 UF hours without explanation. After using the available “free” drops, a student must be able to demonstrate an extenuating circumstance outside of their control (such as serious illness, accident or family problem) and petition for additional drops.
Two unrestricted drops are permitted before earning 60 hours. The drop policy is explained in the Academic Regulations section of this catalog. Two unrestricted drops are permitted for CLAS students with greater than 59 hours. Students wishing to drop courses beyond the two unrestricted drops may petition the CLAS Petitions Committee.

ADD A CLASS AFTER THE DROP/ADD DEADLINE In some circumstances, a class can be added to a student's schedule after the official drop/add deadline. This can only be done by meeting with your academic advisor. Do NOT use the online system to request to add a class.

It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average). Although students may be reluctant to have a “W” on their transcript, sometimes “W” stands for Wisdom. Withdrawing from one class may make success in other classes manageable and allow your student to end the semester with a strong GPA.
When a class is dropped, the grades do not appear on the transcript of the student. The whole class is removed. In a withdrawal, the grades appear as “WF” or “WP” on the transcript of the student.
Once you have dropped a class, you no longer have to attend it, and you will no longer receive a grade in that course. Instead, there will usually be a "W" (for "Withdrawn") next to the course's name, instead of a letter grade, on your transcript. This "W" will not affect your GPA.Jan 17, 2022
A minimum UF cumulative grade point average of 2.0 must be earned for award of an undergraduate degree.
Catalog Year. UF operates on a semester system. There are two semesters averaging 15 weeks of instruction, plus a week of final examinations and two six-week summer terms. Semesters begin in August, January and May.
Students must complete all degree requirements established by the university, their college, their major and minor (if applicable); this includes completion of general education, writing requirement and the summer term enrollment requirements.

To be certified to receive the majors/degrees, all requirements must be met for each and at least 15 credits exclusive to each major must have been completed. To earn a double major, dual degree or second major, a student must be certified for and graduate from all undergraduate programs of study at the same time.
Students may complete a Minor Application after earning 45 credit hours, but before reaching 96 credit hours. Applications for minors may be obtained at the Office of the University Registrar and College offices. You will need approval of both your current college and the college that offers the minor.
CLAS does not necessarily advise students to take courses elsewhere as grades earned elsewhere will not help improve your UFGPA. In fact, if you’ve been dismissed, take classes elsewhere, and subsequently get readmitted, those outside credits will not even be counted as credit earned towards a UF degree. Therefore, in general, it’s recommended that you use the time away to reflect on your past performance and address any issues so that you are able to have a more positive academic experience if readmitted.
Yes, a Dual Degree requires the completion of two majors for which the degree is different (one is a Bachelor of Arts and the other a Bachelor of Science); or if one major is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the other is in another college. Students must first be approved to pursue dual degrees.
Students may drop courses by the published deadline for each term . Few drops are permitted after the deadline, so it is important that students make the decision to drop before the published deadline. The deadline is always listed in the Schedule of Courses each semester.
Normal Course Loads: The normal load in this college is 12-15 credit hours, and all students are expected to carry a normal load. Loads above 17 hours must be approved by the associate dean in 100 AAC. This exception may be made for final term graduation candidates with a 2.8 or higher UF GPA.
(top) Foreign Language Requirement: CLAS students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language. Foreign language is an important component of a liberal education.
Seniors must file a formal application for a degree in the registrar's office early in the term in which they expect to graduate. The university calendar will provide the deadline for a current term degree application.
Student Responsibility. Students are responsible for ensuring they understand and meet all major and college degree requirements. Any questions about these requirements should be raised with a departmental advisor (for major requirements) or college advisor (for college requirements). Students must meet college progression standards each term.
Withdrawing from UF. Withdrawal is defined as dropping all courses, not individual courses, in a term. Students who leave UF without withdrawing formally will receive failing grades for all courses.
Per Florida Statute 250.482, if a member of the Florida National Guard is ordered into active service, no private or public employer, and no employing or appointing authority of this state, its counties, municipalities, political subdivisions, community colleges, or universities, shall discharge, reprimand, or in any other way penalize such member because of his or her absence by reason of state active duty.
Per Florida Statute 1004.07, any student enrolled in a postsecondary course or courses at a state university shall not incur academic or financial penalties by virtue of performing military service on behalf of our country. Such student shall be permitted the option of either completing the course or courses at a later date without penalty or withdrawing from the course or courses with a full refund of fees paid (see refund of fees information in fees and fiscal section). If the student chooses to withdraw, the student's record shall reflect that the withdrawal is due to active military service.
The Dean of Students Office handles requests for medical withdrawals. A student who is withdrawing from the semester may request that this be processed as a medical withdrawal if circumstances warrant. The student will be required to provide appropriate documentation in order to withdraw for a medical reason.
Have completed an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida public institution or at least 60 transferable semester credit hours from a regionally accredited institution. If your school uses the quarter system, you must have completed 90 quarter hours.

Your college coursework is used to determine your eligibility for admissions as an upper division applicant.
