Feb 10, 2022 · The super G is the first speed event in the women's alpine skiing programme at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The race is scheduled on Friday (11 February) at 11:00 local time (4:00 CET, 19:00 PST on Thursday) and will take place on the 'Rock' course at the Beijing National Ski Centre in Yanqing.
The course used for giant slalom competitions must have a vertical drop between 250–450m for men, and 250–400m for women. A total of 56-70 gates are used for men's events and 46–58 are used for women. The minimum length of skis used for giant slalom has to be185 cm for men and 180 cm for women.
Giant slalom involves elements of both downhill and slalom; the gates are wider and farther apart than in the latter, and speeds average about 80 km/h (50 mph). Super G is a hybrid of downhill and giant slalom, with some portions skiied at downhill speed and others more like giant slalom.
