How to Become ServSafe Certified. The first step in getting your ServSafe certification is to create an account on the ServSafe website. Once you have a ServSafe login, you can then buy the program or course you want. You have the option to take an online course or to enroll in a class with an instructor.
Length of Exam The ServSafe Food Handler assessment is a 40-question, non-proctored test. It has no time limit, meaning test-takers may complete at their own pace. On average, test-takers work through the exam within 90 minutes.
The exam is 90 questions. All Multiple Choice. You get 2 hours to complete the exam.
About the ServSafe® Food Handler Course/Guide Course Length: Approximately two hours. Assessment Length: A 40-question, non-proctored test with no time limit.
What is the passing score for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Examination? A passing score is 75% or higher. This is obtained by answering at least 60 out of 80 questions correctly. The exam has 90 questions; however there are 10 pilot questions that are for research purposes only.
You will need to purchase a new exam each time you need to retest. You can take the examination twice within 30 days. If you don't pass the exam on your second attempt, you must wait 60 days from your most recent attempt before taking the exam again. No more than four attempts are allowed within a 12 month period.
Online proctors are supplied by ProctorU and not by ServSafe. Proctoring of online ServSafe Manager exams not delivered through ProctorU require a proctor that is registered with ServSafe. The proctor must be physically present during the administration of a ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification exam.
ServSafe Food Handler The test contains 40 questions and is not timed. You must get 75% of the answers correct in order to pass the test, and you can take it as many times as you need to until you earn your ServSafe Food Handler certification.
Certification Process The National Restaurant Association recognizes the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification for a five-year period. The ServSafe Alcohol, ServSafe Allergens and ServSafe Food Handler Certificates are recognized for a three-year period.
After the ServSafe® Allergens Online Course and Assessment has been purchased, it can be accessed in Course Management. Click on the Students tab and then Take Online Course. Please note, a User ID and Password for ServSafe.com is required. If you do not have one, select “Create New Profile” when prompted.
The course takes approximately 60 to 90 munutes. The ServSafe Food Handler Exam is an untimed 40 question test. To receive a ServSafe Food Handler certificate, you must score better than 75% (i.e., answer more than 30 questions correctly).
The ServSafe Manager exam is given in a proctored environment and has 90 multiple choice questions. You are required to score 75% or better on the exam to receive certification. There is a 2 hour time limit on the exam.
Although the Food Handler Certificate exam isn't difficult, it's essential for students to study the course material properly and understand the safety rules for handling, preparing and storing food in a way to best reduce the risk of individuals becoming sick from food-borne illnesses.

Once I redeem a code, how long do I have to finish the ServSafe Workplace course?
ServSafe is administered by the National Restaurant Association. We understand the importance of our program in teaching and certifying responsible food service measures.
You can cancel your exam up to 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Cancelling an exam less than 24 hours prior to your appointment or missing your exam may result in forfeiting your exam fees. You can cancel your exam and then schedule it as long as you take the exam within one year from date of purchase.
