I originally wrote this blog post in 2017, and the health coaching industry has come a long way since then. I have also increasingly been getting more questions about The Institute For Integrative Nutrition, in short IIN, and have consequently written follow up blog posts and have created dedicated video content to answer all of your questions.
It's been about a year since I completed my health coaching course through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and this post is long overdue. I'm often asked by others about my opinion of the course and if I think it's a good program.
IIN is a 12 or 6 month long online program designed for people who are passionate about health and wellness. It is broken down into weekly modules (which you can work through in your own time) in which you will learn about nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, mind and body connections, coaching and business skills.
A Health Coach is certified to help clients upgrade their overall wellbeing through diet and lifestyle changes. You will help your clients develop a deeper understanding of the foods and lifestyle choices that work best for them and implement changes that improve their energy and health. You don’t medicate or prescribe. You educate and inspire.
About half of the program is taught by Joshua Rosenthal, the founder and director of IIN. Then there’s many amazing speakers who are at the forefront of the health and wellness field. Some of them include Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Deepak Chopra, David Wolfe, Dr. Mark Hyman, Joy Bauer and many more.
If you’re looking to pursue a career in health coaching, there are ton of different options. Some are full-time clients (online coaching, face-to-face coaching, group coaching), some write books, create healthy products, teach workshops, launch online courses, work at wellness centers alongside nutritionists and doctors…you name it.

In 2005 I began my career in spirituality and personal growth. I led talks throughout NYC on topics like manifesting, wellness and meditation. At the time the wellness conversation wasn’t a trend. No one was drinking green juice or eating gluten-free, and meditation was something you might do once in a while in a yoga class.
There are a few common qualities that all of these women had before they signed up for IIN:
In 2012, I was a senior in college and had all of those typical senior-year habits: drinking way too much, not working out (like not even once), taking all the naps, and eating all the things. It showed. Studying to become an IIN health coach was not on my radar.
I discovered IIN in the late fall of 2014 and quickly realized that my life was about to change for the better. After chatting on the phone with the admissions staff, I felt like I had finally found my path in life.
Convenience, for one. I loved how convenient studying to become a health coach at IIN was. The flexibility was one of the great underrated values for the cost of tuition, in my opinion.
I enrolled with IIN at a time I was working my full-time corporate fashion job in New York City. I found managing my current work and studying with IIN was very manageable if I planned and made my learning a priority.
When compared to other nutrition programs, the tuition cost for IIN is really fair. Keep in mind, the most reliable way to get up-to-date pricing is to talk to someone on the Admissions Team, which you can do by filling out this quick application form.
