The Academy began offering an EMT program in January 2009 and recently added a paramedic program. The WellSpan Health EMS Academy has expanded to include a paramedic program, the first in York County. Ten students have enrolled in the 14-month program, which began in September.

EMS Skills Days. R esidents participate or teach at EMS skills day each July. This is held at the York County Fire School during intern orientation month. Residents get hands on training in simulated field conditions such as back of the ambulance procedures, spinal immobilization, disaster triage and decontamination, and hands on vehicle extrication.
WellSpan Health provides a variety of emergency services for our community. From our busy Emergency Departments to our Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center at WellSpan York Hospital to the inpatient units of our six community hospitals, our staff and physicians are ready to care for you or your family during an emergency.
The Emergency Departments at our six communiy hospitals are available 24 hours a day to care for ill or injured residents in our area. Dedicated nurses, physicians and other staff members provide acute care for a wide variety of conditions.
WellSpan York Hospital's Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center is a referral center for injured patients from across south central Pennsylvania.
To recertify in the state of Pennsylvania, an EMT will need at least 24 hours of Continuing Education Credits in 3 years, including 12 training hours in medical/trauma.

Part-time 1 employees have a regular schedule of 32 to 69 hours per pay period (FTE at least .40 but less than .875). Part-time 2 employees have a regular schedule of less than 32 hours per pay period (FTE less than .40). Each year, you will accrue hours based on your years of service as follows: Hourly Employees.
If your illness is significant and requires more than a week away from work, you can access the short-term disability plan for up to 90 calendar days. If the disability is determined to affect you long-term, you will receive benefits from the long-term disability plan (if eligible).

Tax impact. Life insurance or AD&D benefits received by you or your beneficiaries is not taxable. However, the value of the coverage you receive (to the extent your pay exceeds $50,000 annually) is taxable each year. To avoid the additional tax liability, you may waive coverage of the benefit over $50,000.
