Clindamycin dosages for treating toxoplasmosis are greater than those for treating anaerobic infections for which the drug is marketed. Clinical signs of systemic illness usually begin to resolve within 24 to 48 hours after institution of therapy. Appetite improves, hyperesthesia disappears, and fever usually subsides.
Generally, cats with CNS and eye symptoms respond to therapy more slowly, but they still have more favorable prognoses if their clinical signs improve within 2-3 days of starting therapy.
