The CDIP is a timed exam. Candidates have three hours to complete the exam. The total number of question s on the exam range between 130 and 150 total items. The exam is given in a computer-based format.
You also need at least three years of clinical documentation integrity experience (CDI) and coursework in medical terminology, and anatomy, and physiology. Those with an AHIMA certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P) or a medical degree (RN, MD, or DO) only need two years of experience in CDI.
