First you need to recognize that Penn State is actually a fairly easy school to get into. It’s just that not all the students can go to University Park (the main campus) their freshmen and sophomore years due to lack of room. If you get into a branch campus, you can transfer to University Park your junior year or for some degrees you can graduate from a branch. Regardless you get the same exact degree as someone who started at University Park.
For good students (3.7+ GPA with 1400+ SAT), getting into the flagship campus (University Park) is guaranteed, regardless of major, assuming you apply early. Penn State uses a rolling admissions approach, so the later you apply, the worse off you are. Applying before November 1, is best.
