Select a grading scale: Choose from the options (such as letter grade, number grade). Select how it was reported on your transcript: one final grade or multiple grades. Enter your final grade: The options reflect what type of grades you specified (letter, number, and so on) Block scheduling?
When you have entered all of the classes on your transcript for grades 9 through 11, click "I'm finished..." at the bottom of the section and confirm that this profile section is complete. If you have less than 5 classes for a grade, you'll be asked to explain.
This section lets you report your academic record for grades 9 through 11, including all of the classes you took, grades you received, the year and terms for each class, and, if you attended more than one high school, the different schools you attended. This section should include classes and grades as they are listed on your official transcript.
Most colleges will have supplements you need to fill out for them, such as a personal statement, but by using the Coalition App, you only need to fill out basic information, like your address, grades, classes you took, etc. once. Then it'll be filled for each school you're applying to.
Tip: When you take an AP class, you can take the AP exam in that subject area in the spring. The AP exam is offered by the College Board (not by your teacher and not for a class grade), and depending on your score, you may receive college credit.
Your class rank can typically be found on your high school transcript or report card. If your high school doesn't include class rank, it won't negatively affect your chances of getting into college.
Class rank reporting: This question covers both how your school ranks students, and what your actual rank is within your class. First, you'll choose from the initial drop-down menu to indicate whether your high school ranks students exactly or by decile, quintile, or quartile.
Retake The Course Some schools will allow you to retake a course for a better grade and will delete the F from your transcript entirely. Others will allow you to re-take the class for a higher grade but will keep the F on your transcript, though will not calculate it into your GPA.
Schools calculate a student's class rank by taking their GPA and assessing it in relation to individuals from the same graduating class. If your grade has 100 students, and your GPA is better than 90 of them, then you are ranked number 10 and you're in the top 10 percent of your graduating class.
Class ranking is a mathematical summary of a student's academic record compared to those of other students in the class. It usually takes into account both the degree of difficulty of the courses a student is taking (AP®, honors, college-preparatory or regular courses) and the grade the student earns.
The class rank comes from dividing the number of students enrolled in the same grade as you and multiplying that by 100. Subtract that number from 100, and you arrive at your unique class rank.
Filling out the application The application only has 9th – 12th grades as options (in the United States, 12th grade is equivalent to the year of schooling before you attend university). You should list your 13th year of coursework under 12th grade and work backward through 11th, 10th and 9th grades.
Whether your GPA be weighted or unweighted, as long as you report it correctly on a 4.0 scale, you should be fine.
Limitations. The transcript displays the official record of classes students enroll in during school, so most grades cannot be changed or removed. Courses changed before the drop/add date do not appear on the transcript, but any classes you do not drop after that date are part of the permanent record.
Retaking a course may raise your student's GPA (grade point average). In many schools, if a student retakes a course, the most recent grade will replace the lower grade in the student's GPA. The earlier, lower grade will remain on the transcript, but will not be included in the GPA.
When Grade Forgiveness is applied to a student's record, the grade earned during the first attempt of the course is no longer factored in to the student's GPA but it will still appear on the student's transcript. In other words, the new grade replaces the old grade in the calculation of a student's GPA.
Only about 150 colleges accept the Coalition App, so there's a significant chance that one or more of the schools you're applying to don't use it. In that case, you'll either need to use another college application system, like the Common App, or apply to those schools individually.
For colleges to use the Coalition Application, they must: Be open to students of different cultural, socio-economic, and geographic backgrounds. Have low or no-debt financial aid, meet full demonstrated need, or offer in-state tuition.
Using a college application system like the Coalition App makes applying to multiple colleges easier because you only need to enter most of your information one time, rather than once for each school you're applying to.
The Coalition Application is a college application designed to make it easier to apply to multiple colleges. Instead of filling out each school's application individually, you can complete the Coalition App, and that information will be filled in for all the colleges you're applying to (that use the Coalition App).
About 800 schools use the Common App, while about 150 use the Coalition App. However, the Coalition App has other benefits, such as including a virtual locker where you can organize your different application components (we discuss this more further in the article).
The Coalition Application includes an essay, and most schools will require you to complete it. There's no official word limit for the essay, but aim for about 500-550 words. There are five prompts to choose from, but you only need to answer one.
