Walking. Pasatiempo is very walkable, having been built in the time before electric carts; for example, every tee is close to the previous green. However, our terrain has significant elevation changes.
While this isn't unique – most great courses have excellent service – there's a feel to Pasatiempo that's different. It's more relaxed, natural, at ease. This genuine friendliness also extends to the members (Pasatiempo is semi-private), who could not have been nicer about helping a tourist get around their course.

Pasatiempo has been in the trusted hands of Jim Urbina who has for over 20 years help guide and direct us in recapturing the design principles of Alister Mackenzie. Jim has been restoring Pasatiempo Golf Club, first with Renaissance Golf Design and now under his own design company banner.

September 8, 1929The course officially opened on September 8, 1929, with the first group to play consisting of Marion Hollins, Bobby Jones (considered the father of modern golf), Glenna Collett (U.S. Womens Amateur Champion) and Cyril Tolley (British Amateur Champion).
architect Alister MacKenziePasatiempo was designed by world-renowned golf architect Alister MacKenzie. Even though MacKenzie also designed Augusta National and Cypress Point, Pasatiempo was his favorite layout and where he made his American home, which still borders the sixth fairway.

Our course has hosted the Western Intercollegiate for the past 65 years and features the top college players in the world. Pasatiempo has hosted USGA Championships including the 1986 U.S. Women’s Amateur and the 2004 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur.

From Hwy 17, just north of Santa Cruz, take exit 1 (Pasatiempo Drive). Cross-over to the west side of Hwy 17, and follow Pasatiempo Drive / Clubhouse Road north for o.6 miles to clubhouse.

Opening for play in 1929, Pasatiempo offers golfers an unusual difference in tempos from the front to the back nine. The front features straight holes lined with local trees, whilst the back winds around the coast with complex bunkering and deep, intimidating ravines.

Whether you want to hunt for sand dollars or smell the fresh air, Capitola Beach is a spot you might want to check out, located 0.4 mi (0.6 km) from central Capitola. If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Esplanade Park Beach and Hooper Beach, both within a short walk.
