The EMT Refresher course will return to on-site lectures and on-site skills verification. On-site attendance during all 3 days will be required in order for course completion. This course includes the state skills verification if you received provisional certification and need NREMT or LEMSA skill verification.

Candidates who fail to pass after a total of six attempts are required to repeat the entire Advanced EMT course. Traditional refresher course: Completion of a State or CAPCE (F1, F2, F5) approved 36 hour AEMT refresher course. NCCR 25 hours of continuing education: Completion of the 25 hour National Competency Component from the NCCP model.

If you fail the exam, you can reschedule a new test date and time. You have to wait two weeks to retest. You will have to again have to go to www.nremt.org to pay your fee and www.vue.com to schedule another exam.
Nationally Registered EMTs (NREMT) are required to renew their certification every two years. NREMTs can recertify by either taking the cognitive examination or by completing continuing education.
The State of California does not certify, renew or reinstate EMT certifications. This is done by the local EMS agency and other authorized certifying entities. Once the certification, renewal or reinstatement is processed, the certifying entity will issue the State EMT card.
