In 1951, after John and Bert passed away, Marty Coghill asked Joe to buy the two courses. He did so for $400,000 even though Marty was offered $500,000 by another outfit. Joe said Marty chose him because he knew he would get paid. They had an agreement that the course would continue to be called Cog Hill.

A challenge to pronounce and type, Baltusrol Golf Club, which will host this week's 98th PGA Championship, was named after Baltus Roll, a farmer who owned and worked the land where the club resides today.
The name of the Club was derived from the land's previous owner, Baltus Roll, a Dutch farmer who was brutally murdered at his farmhouse during a robbery attempt in 1831. Some sixty years later, Roll's first and last names were contracted to form the Club's moniker: Baltusrol Golf Club.
