There is a fee (varies depending on demand) for parking at the main parking area at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. There is also a free parking lot along Torrey Pines Road.

The Torrey Pines South Course is the more challenging of the two and is the host of the 2008 & 2021 U.S. Open Championships. The South course was originally designed by William Bell, Sr. in 1957, and is home to the Farmers Insurance Open PGA Golf Tournament (along with the North Course).
The North Course is shorter and less expensive than its brother. For many, it is more scenic than the South, having more picture-perfect opportunities along the track. The North Course is more popular for the less-experienced golfer but will still put up a good fight for the better ones.
Everyone says you have to play the South Course when you visit Torrey Pines. We found the North Course to be more playable, with better views, more thrilling holes and a better value.
It is very difficult: Extraordinary length, narrow fairways, deep rough, punishing bunkers and multi-tiered greens make it one of the toughest layouts anywhere. And you can't argue with the theater of 2008 or the champion it identified. On both counts Torrey gets an A+.Jun 16, 2021

Golf Is Easy at Torrey Pines North Course Having said that, however, with all the beauty of the facility, the North was the third-easiest course on the PGA Tour. Players averaged 69.551 on the North, 2.449 strokes below par. It's not a matter of length; the North measures 7,067 yards and plays to a par 72.
Dress code is pretty lax, and fivesomes are permitted. (We were behind a fivesome during my round on the South, which took about 4:40.) That said, the staff at Torrey Pines was exceedingly friendly, which can also be said for much of the tourist and service industry around San Diego.Jan 24, 2021

A normal golf hole will take a group of four amateur golfers around 15 minutes to complete. This equates to an 18-hole round of golf taking anywhere from 4 to 4.5 hours.
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is very popular, get here early to beat the crowds. If it’s after 8am, you might have a hard time finding a parking space. There is a parking fee for this state park.
You don’t need any special hiking gear for Torrey Pines, you can get away with workout clothes.

Both courses feature dramatic mountain views from greens surrounded by aspen forests, wildflower meadows and sage covered hills.
A combination of recent rain and preparation for the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open made the rough fairly long and difficult to find golf balls. The fairways also seemed to have been a narrowed making the course play a bit more difficult than regular times.
The Torrey Pines North Course was newly Renovated in 2016 by Tom Weiskopf. It is the host of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open (along with the South Course). The North Course is shorter and less expensive than its brother.
