John Proctor was a witch in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the son of John Proctor, Sr. and Martha Harper. He was hanged on August 19, 1692 in Salem Village, Massachusetts Bay Colony during the Salem Witch Trials after being falsely accused and convicted for witchcraft.
The second cause of Proctor's change is when he faces the gallows in Act 4. He considers signing his name to a false confession. Since he is already a sinner, he tries to convince himself it isn't really a lie.
