I worked for LoanStreet in NYC. Small company. <30 people. Cofounder/COO Christopher Wu told me my equity would start vesting after 12 months. After I started, they told me that they actually meant 12 months after the next quarterly board meeting, and I would only start to vest after 16 months. I asked them to change it.
