For the Spring 2022 quarter, UCLA Extension Certificate and Study Abroad programs will be offered in a hybrid (online and in-person) format. Students without an F-1 visa, who wish to study in the U.S. and enroll in one of our hybrid format programs, will meet U.S. Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) eligibility requirements for an I-20 form to obtain an F-1 visa.

UCLA Extension is noted for its certificate programs. A large number of Americans and international students take courses leading to certificates in specific fields such as accounting, marketing, real estate, systems analysis, interior design, cinematography, and more.
Hours of instruction are mainly daytime from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT. Study abroad students are eligible to enroll in UCLA’s College of Letters and Sciences undergraduate classes from the departments of humanities, life sciences, physical science, and social sciences.
Study Abroad at UCLA is designed for students who want to spend a quarter or more studying at a top-ranked American university, earn credit that they can transfer to their home university, and experience the culture of Southern California.
Study abroad students are eligible to enroll in undergraduate courses offered by the UCLA College of Letters and Sciences. The College offers a wide variety of courses in the Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
Student Status. Admission to Study Abroad does not constitute admission to UCLA or to any UCLA degree program. However, degree credit earned through Study Abroad at UCLA may apply toward UCLA bachelors and/or masters degrees if you enter a degree program later.
Course length varies from three weeks to 11 weeks per quarter, depending on the course. A full-time course load is considered to be at least three 4-unit courses for 12 units. Hours of instruction are mainly evenings from 6:30 to 10 p.m. PT. Some courses are offered on weekends and during the weekday.
12-week program with fully live online sessions in a virtual classroom environment. Launch your career sooner by studying full-time and completing the program at an accelerated pace. Attend live, instructor-led classes online Monday – Friday, 10 a.m – 2:30 p.m.
At the Coding Boot Camp at UCLA Extension, our online Full Stack Flex web coding classes teach you the key skills for front end and back end web development, all while preparing you for success in the professional world.
No. While UCLA Extension is affiliated with the main UCLA campus, please note that UCLA Extension is a separate and distinct institution. Students enrolled at Extension are therefore considered UCLA Extension Students and are in fact separate from degree students on the main UCLA campus.
UCLA Extension has an open enrollment policy. A college or university degree is not required to enroll in courses. There are no restrictions on the number of courses students may take during any quarter. Students may register for individual courses without enrolling in a certificate program.
What kind of education does UCLA Extension offer? With over 50 certificate programs and about 4,500 stand-alone courses, UCLA Extension offers specialized training and education that is frequently not available in graduate or undergraduate programs. Most courses meet on the UCLA campus or at UCLA Extension facilities in Westwood, Downtown LA, or Woodland Hills. Others are held at professional locations such as studios around the Los Angeles area. Entertainment Studies also offers convenient online courses.
In general, a maximum of 2 requirements may be waived in any Entertainment Studies certificate program.
The Entertainment Studies Internship Program is available to students currently enrolled in an Entertainment Studies certificate program who have completed 50% of their required coursework. An exception can be made for those students who have successfully completed 12 units toward their certificate.
No. Degree students enrolled at UCLA are charged quarterly fees that fund an array of special services and privileges that support the full-time undergraduate student experience. Extension’s certificate students are not charged the mandatory registration fee that funds these activities. However, UCLA Extension certificate students are eligible to receive a BruinCard and take advantage of a variety of other benefits.
