The main difference between practice and playing is that you need to follow your ball by walking or in a cart and there is a much bigger time gap between shots. The truth of the matter is, no matter how realistic you make the conditions of a practice round, there is nothing like the real thing when it comes to golf.

The way that most golfers use the driving range doesn’t resemble the golf course at all. If the aim of practicing is to try to improve and shoot lower scores on the course, then it makes sense to create an environment like the one you’ll be playing in.
To create a practice environment which more closely resembles the conditions that you will have to master to lower your scores, do the following:
Write these different shots down in your performance journal or small notebook and take them with you to practice. I hope this week’s lesson has given you some ideas for practicing in a way will help you develop your playing skills, so you can finally take your range game to the course.
Really visualizing the shot you want to hit and feeling that shot with your practice swing means that you’ve already felt that swing you are about turn into reality. If you’ve practiced a drill during your practice swing you’ve wasted an opportunity to really connect with the shot and make your real swing more fluid, without controlling thoughts.

I spoke about this in my last article, which showed that elite golfers have a much more focused “Scan Path” between the ball at the target before swing ing. The higher handicapper has a much more erratic scan path, probably due to all the other thoughts they have going on.
Balance is a great swing thought. Your tempo is directly related your balance. During your swing, your weight moves between both feet and if you’re not well balanced you won’t make a good transition of your weight to maintain your tempo and rhythm.
