"Route plotting failed" most of the time means, that your ship can't make 1 or more jumps in the selected route. Meaning it can only jump 5ly, while the star is 6ly away.
Eahlstan. 1000 light years is the limit for economical routes. If you want to plot farther set your route to 'fastest'.
