How do I copy a Canvas course into a new course shell?
Full Answer
To access an old course:
You can add your syllabus to your Canvas course in three steps:
Sending Content to Another Instructor
When you copy a Canvas course using the Copy this Course button, you will be added to the course as an instructor automatically.
Copied courses are added to the same subaccount as the course that is copied. Courses should be copied when you want to use or repurpose previously created content including course settings, syllabus, assignments, modules, files, pages, discussions, quizzes, and question banks. You can also copy or adjust events and due dates.
To import all content from the course, select the All Content radio button [1]. If you want to select specific content, click the Select specific content radio button [2]. Note: If you select the specific content option, you are required to select the content you want to import; this action cannot be cancelled.
Copies of existing Canvas courses and course files reference the original Canvas course file quota and do not count against course file quotas.
Importing a course more than once may have unintended consequences. If you import content into a new course, edit the content in the new course, and later import the previous content again, the imported content will override the existing content.
Internal course links (e.g., link to an assignment, discussion, etc.) and file links do not copy over because Design Tools doesn't bring over the files themselves, does not update the file links on the page , and does not update the internal course links. This means that all of those internal links point back to the original course site.
As of October 2018 it is now possible to copy an existing assignment/discussion/quiz description and Canvas Content Page that does not utilize a Design Tools template into another item's rich content editor within a single course. This new functionality has been added in addition to the existing ability to copy a single Content Page from one Canvas course to another using Design Tools!
The Canvas Course Import tool can be used to copy specific course content or entire courses from previous terms and quickly import them into existing courses. Important Note: Before using the course import tool, you must be enrolled in both the course you want to copy to, as well as the course you want to copy from.
Click the Import Course Content button on the right-sidebar.
Once you have selected the correct course to copy from , you can move on to the content settings section where you can specify whether to include All content if you are copying the entire course from one semester to another, or you can choose to Select specific content only if you want to copy certain items.
