If your instructor has provided you with a direct link to their Top Hat course (in the format app.tophat.com/e/###### or app-ca.tophat.com/e/###### ), either via your syllabus, Learning Management System, or direct email invitation, click here to skip to the next step regarding the Signup page.
To remove yourself from a Top Hat course navigate to your course lobby or courses page as described above. From a web browser, locate the course you want to unenroll from in your list of courses and click on Unenroll.
Once you have enrolled in a Top Hat course, you find any assigned chapters of your textbook in the Assigned section of your course. Click into a folder on the Assigned screen to reveal the chapter, and then tap the chapter to bring it up on your device.
If you did not add your phone number when you created your account and you'd like to add it, or if you need to change the phone number associated with your account, simply log into your Top Hat account, and from a course, click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner, followed by "My Account."
Click on Join Course and search for your course using the provided search bar. Courses can be searched by course name or professor name, but searching by 6-digit Top Hat course join code will yield you the best results! Once you have identified your course, click Join Course to enroll in it.
Top Hat Basic is free for both professors and students. Use Top Hat's free active learning platform to increase engagement and motivate students inside class and out.
Items assigned in homework mode are graded. Review - Indicated underneath the icon in orange letters when accessing Top Hat from a web browser. This means you have access to the item outside of the classroom and, if applicable, have the ability to see the correct answer (as a means of review).
The 4-digit attendance code can be found on your instructor's projected screen (or communicated verbally if your instructor is not projecting their screen). Once you have typed in the code, tap on the "Record Submission" button (if you are just logging your attendance, you can leave answer field blank).
Top Hat Classroom is subscription product that can be purchased for durations of four months, one year or four years.
One Top Hat subscription provides student access to polling, attendance, secure test, and engaging assignments within the Top Hat software. The 2019-2020 cost for a subscription is $24/semester or $41/year.

A: Though Top Hat does not block students from being able to access websites or programs outside of the platform, it does use a "Lock Out" mechanism to lock students out of continuing their test if the are found to be navigating away from the test or attempting to access external websites/resources.
As a reminder, you can disable this permission setting at any time in the app's location access settings if you so wish, but again, Top Hat is not tracking your location at all times!
Using Top Hat allows professors to regularly administer assessments, quizzes and exams—and the results are all kept in one spot, letting professors see the trends of their students' performance and reach out to anyone who's struggling.
Top Hat Attendance provides a 'geolocation' feature to prevent students from responding to attendance outside of a physical area. Top Hat questions do not have the geolocation feature so technically you cannot prevent students from responding to questions remotely.

In some cases, you may be required to enter a course password to enroll in a course. You will only be required to enter a course password if your professor has set one up. The only way to obtain a course password is directly from your professor.

Top Hat textbooks provide students with an engaging and interactive way to complete readings and assignments. In order to get the most out of their Top Hat textbook, students should keep the answers to the following commonly asked questions in mind:
The highlighted text will then appear in the the Notebook on the left side of the screen. Bookmarked text will stay pinned in the Notebook and can be returned to at any time. Bookmarks added by a student are specific to their copy of the textbook, meaning no one other than the student that added the bookmark will be able to see it.
Students can change their response to a question even after they have clicked the Submit button if the item is assigned as Review or if the item is assigned as Homework and their instructor has permitted multiple attempts for the question.

To highlight a section, access your textbook on a computer, select the text with your mouse, and click on the most fitting highlighting option, "Mark Confusing" or "Mark Important.". Text highlighted and marked as confusing will appear in red, whereas text marked as important will appear in green.
To reveal the chapter index, click the three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner of the screen. This will partially reveal the index in the lower portion your screen.
Top Hat textbooks allow students to take full advantage of an immersive reading experience in both web and mobile formats. Students using Top Hat textbooks will find questions and digital media embedded throughout their text to help them engage with and reflect on the material.
You can also switch between the index and your notebook by toggling between the options at the top of the lefthand column. Instructions on how to take notes can be found in the next section of this article.
You can choose to mark the text as Important (which will highlight the text in green) or Confusing (which will highlight the text in red).
