The study of marine biology often requires hands on work in a laboratory setting. There are many marine labs in the US and around the globe with a variety of research topics and resources.
Field stations and marine labs bring the basic tools of science—from electricity to community—to the places where science needs to be done, and cultivate a base of place-specific knowledge that fosters discovery.
September Courses In September, the College offers five courses at the Marine Biological Laboratory. Each course is taught by UChicago and MBL faculty.
Marine Biology is a field that is very competitive with large numbers of graduates entering the sector every year, so work experience is a necessity. The permanent jobs that are on offer usually require postgraduate qualifications, and can be in the far-flung reaches of the world.
A Marine Biologist, or Marine Life Biologist, studies and researches the ocean and aquatic life. Their main duties include conducting experiments, caring for sick and injured sea creatures and monitoring the everyday functions of marine life.
