The Ken Wapnick Death has saddened many of us. Kenneth Wapnick departed our shared dream on December 27th, and I’m assuming left all the theology behind for us to sort out.
Kenneth Wapnick believed that Schucman did not channel Jesus, but was describing her "own mental experience of divine 'love'". Since it went on sale in 1976, the text has been translated into 27 languages. The book is distributed globally, spawning a range of organized groups.
My sense was that Ken had a vision of A Course in Miraclesin relationship to the western spiritual and philosophical tradition, and I think in the end he was right about that.
I have found Ken Wapanick’s videos and books invaluable guides. I wonder what his opinion of the plain language ACIM translated by Liz Chronkhite would have been. I have found that book very helpful for someone such as me new to the course. I enjoyed your piece on Ken.
Kenneth Wapnick. It is with the utmost sorrow that we inform you of the death of Dr. Kenneth Wapnick on Friday December 27, 2013. He died peacefully at home with his beloved wife Gloria and family at his side. The family will have a private service and plans are being made for a forthcoming public memorial.
The figure in the dream we knew as Ken Wapnick has left the dream. He played out his part in the Holy Spirits plan for the awakening of God’s Son. His part included a roll in bringing A Course in Miracles to the world, which taught us many things about Truth and the illusion that seems so real to us.
And all the circle fills with light before your eyes. The edges of the circle disappear, and what is in it is no longer contained at all. The light expands and covers everything, extending to infinity forever shining and with no break or limit anywhere. Within it everything is joined in perfect continuity.
Nothing in the dream that included Ken is real, only the love God shared with us through him is true. The love that shined through Ken is present now and can never change. As I am fond of saying, we are love, and anyone who is in our thoughts is part of that love. It’s nice to have you around Ken!
In 1972, the dictation of the three main sections of the Course was completed, with some additional minor dictation coming after that point. Kenneth Wapnick helped edit the book and founded the Foundation for A Course in Miracles.
A Course in Miracles (also referred to as ACIM or the Course) is a 1976 book by Helen Schucman. The underlying premise is that the greatest " miracle " is the act of simply gaining a full "awareness of love's presence" in one's own life.
She said that on October 21, 1965, an "inner voice" told her: "This is a Course in Miracles, please take notes.". Schucman said that the writing made her very uncomfortable, though it never seriously occurred to her to stop. The next day, she explained the events of her "note-taking" to Thetford.
