In 2012, Donald Trump purchased the Ritz-Carlton golf course in Jupiter, Florida, according to NBC, and for whatever reason, a group of previous members decided to ship out. Under the former rules of the agreement, these members were permitted to continue playing golf on the course until their replacements were found: like it or not, that's the contract they signed. When Trump caught wind of this, though, he wrote a letter to the members of the club saying that, as the new owner, he wanted them gone ASAP and these former rules no longer applied. According to USA Today, Trump also refused to give the former members their refundable deposits, some of which were as high as $210,000.
Trump ended up settling with Greenberg, agreeing to donate $158,000 to Greenberg's charitable foundation, according to Vox. The prize money didn't come directly from Trump himself, though. Rather, the check was written from Trump's "charity" organization, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, which has a pretty checkered record of charitable activities.
Seven of the current Trump Golf-owned/managed properties are open to the public for tee times and eight of the clubs are private.

Before Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, he was well-known in the golf community as the namesake of the courses and grounds that share his name.
The Trump Organization owns or operates 17 golf courses around the world, with 15 owned, including three overseas, and two in the United Arab Emirates his company operates through a licensing deal. Dating back to 2000, Trump has reported a total loss of $315.6 million for his golf properties.
Trump has also used his golf businesses to reduce his tax liability, declaring land at his Los Angeles-area club as protected under an environmental conservation easement that meant millions in tax credits. He also wrote off dramatically higher administrative expenses for his Bedminster, N.J., club early in his presidency, likely done in response to the club becoming a home away from the White House during the summers.
Trump has spent $213 million on the property, and a $125 million mortgage on the property is due in full in three years. The capital infusion has been spent renovating the resort's accommodations and several of the property's golf courses, including the famous Blue Monster, which hosted the PGA Tour for some 50 years before the PGA Tour left in 2016.
Trump Organization properties in Jupiter, Florida, Colts Neck in New Jersey and near Charlotte, North Carolina, can only be operated as golf courses and cannot be repurposed for other uses, according to deed restrictions lodged with the local municipalities.
And in Los Angeles County, where his cliff-top Trump National Golf Club sits, the local municipality and other agencies require the site’s owner to maintain open space and to preserve local flora and fauna, according to planning documents.
The previous owner had agreed to preserve open spaces and public access in order to secure zoning rights for the 75 homes that Trump in 2002 purchased the property with. The course was among those Trump in the 2016 Reuters interview identified as having big potential for development.
The White House declined to comment. The Trump Organization, which is owned by Donald Trump, is the umbrella group for his numerous businesses. Trump did in 2008 obtain rights to rezone farmland and a coastal reserve in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to build hundreds of residences subject to building a golf course and a large hotel.
