At the top left you’ll see the Navigator which is a thumbnail of the selected photo. Under that is the Catalog. The options that you’ll use are either Previous import, which will limit the view to just the last batch of photos you bought into Lightroom. Optimizing the catalog tells Lightroom to examine the data structure of the catalog and make sure that it is both correct and succinct.

Import some photos into this new catalog to make sure that everything is working as expected.
