Guild Wars 2 Guide to Getting the Griffon: Your Way! Earning your griffon is a personal experience that can proceed in so many different directions. You can get the eggs first and do hearts and events at the end or do each zone for their separate achievements.
Griffons are four-legged winged creatures found across Tyria. Their appearance changes, though they will always resemble a mixture of a bird (head, wings, and sometimes foreclaws) and a feline. Their appearance greatly differs based on their geographical location.
To start the griffon quest you must first complete the Path of Fire Story journal. A springer with the high jump mastery and 250g are required as well. Credit to Sibuwu for the video.
Once the griffon is fully unlocked, the player will have additional control options available as keybinds. In your Control Options menu, under Mounts, you will find Mount Ability 1 and Mount Ability 2. For the griffon, these keybinds translate to Dive and Climb respectively. By default, your character can Dive using the V, and Climb using C.
Griffon you can complete within a day or two at the most, (so long as you have the gold & have completed PoF storyline). Skyscale will take a minimum of (10 days) & is pretty much all of the previous mount collections combined into one (if not more).
Griffon is pretty much the same experience with or without them (being a bit more pleasant with, of course), but skyscale is not skyscale without them.
To gain forward momentum, hold forward and "v", then let go of the "v" key. This will give a slight increase in forward movement speed. To climb, use the "c" key to gain altitude. Backwards movement key can also be used to lean back and climb, but if held too long will put the griffon into a landing state.
Players must reach the Sunspear Sanctuary after completing the Path of Fire story. There, they can interact with the Remains of the Last Spearmarshal and answer "I'll see what I can do." This unlocks the "Open Skies" collections which, once completed, unlocks the griffon mount.
You have to spend at least 41g - 6g for toys during Raising Skyscales (part 3) and 35g for saddle components during Riding Skyscales (part 5).
This collection requires a minimum of 3 days to complete and up to a maximum of 12 days as it requires 12 Charged Quartz Crystal. Upon entering Sun's Refuge you will see Raise your skyscale hatchling (80) in the Content Guide telling you what steps have yet to be taken for the day.
This is correct. You need the skimmer to get across the Dragonbrand because otherwise the brandstorm will kill you. (It might be possible without it, but probably not) and you need either the springer or the jackal to get to the Griffon Sanctuary.
Requirements. Must have finished PoF story, and will need 250 gold.

It is the only one of the Guild Wars 2 mounts that can fly, but no higher than where it started. So you just need to find somewhere high to start and you are golden. You can unlock this after finishing the Path of Fire storyline.
After completing the Path of Fire storyline, players can begin their journey to unlocking a Griffon mount. Players will begin to find strange items (Strange Pellets of Bone and Fur, Strange Droppings, Strange Feather) that direct them to Beastmaster Ghazal in the Garden of Seborhin, in the northeast Domain of Vabbi.
The griffon's theme is known as "Legendary Ascent" in the Path of Fire soundtrack. There is a miniature of this mount. Unlike griffons in Central Tyria, the griffon mount possesses more avian features, including avian-style hindfeet and feathers along the base of its tail, along with a much thicker tail in general.
While it cannot gain altitude above its starting point, apart from a substantial hop at the start, it can flap its wings periodically to regain some of the altitude lost in gliding, allowing near-level flight. By hopping on to structures or elevated terrain, it can quickly gain height.
Despite weighing as much as a dolyak, the elusive giant griffon can glide at high altitudes and even take off briefly from the ground. The Mordant Crescent is acting to suppress recent rumors of griffon riders in the desert skies, and you have quite a journey ahead if you’d like one for yourself.
Alternatively, you can go back to the griffon roost for warmed egg and just fly across to here, which is my favourite method. The eggs are located on a tall pillar which you can get to by using the springer jump from lower pillars.
Lustrous Coastal Griffon Egg. You can find this egg atop the Teratohedron which is in the Maculate Fringe area. When you arrive at the bottom of the Teratohedron, follow the slanted pathway up that is filled with branded lightning strikes. Go all the way up until you are at the hero point.
Warmed Coastal Griffon Egg. This Griffon egg is on top of a very high rock/cliff not too far from entrance to Desert Highlands. You can get up with springer mount High Vault ability. This is a griffon roost so you can ride the griffon to the next egg location.
Shadi’s Armor – Near the Skimmer Ranch in the quicksand is a small cave. Interact with the Hermit’s chest at the back for the armor. Go back to Shadi to finish up the collection and talk to her to acquire the Rune of Honor.
Talk to Master Sergeant Shadi to start the achievement. She is located on the NW corner of the Elon Riverlands. Shadi’s Sword – Near Shadi, kill the Veteran Water Djinn to get the sword.
Shadi’s Sword – Near Shadi, kill the Veteran Water Djinn to get the sword. Shadi’s Helm – Interact with the Pile of Equipment inside the Branded cave. Shadi’s Gloves – Interact with the Pile of Leaves on top of this rock pillar in Skimshallow Cove.
You need to catch the Corrupted Facet legendary bounty which spawns NE of the map near the Teratohedron. You can just camp the bounty boards in Destiny’s Gorge and hope he pops up soon. The rune will be inside the event reward pop up chest.
BY: GMAFOG. Earning your griffon is a personal experience that can proceed in so many different directions. You can get the eggs first and do hearts and events at the end or do each zone for their separate achievements. By this time, if you have not earned your griffon, I suspect you are saying, “What the heck are you talking about!”.
Fly northwest from the Griffon Roost, going to the second outcrop from the left. Land on the ledge below the pillar and jump up with your springer to the top of the outcrop for the egg. You will get zapped when you land. Find the egg and head north to the next nest.

In addition to working as a Web Production Assistant for Franchise Update Media, she voluntarily writes and edits for Gaiscioch Magazine. She attends Westside Christian Church and loves going on missions trips to Rwanda with Africa New Life Ministries. In her spare time, Gma plays games with The Gaiscioch [GSCH] Family and grandsons; dabbles in photography; and explores crafting ideas. You can always ask her questions, as she enjoys helping others, in-game and out.
I will note here that each time you find an egg you can borrow another griffon for that zone, but once you take the griffon egg, you will not be able to get another griffon in the same spot. The only place at that point to get a griffin is at the main roost for the zone you are in. Each zone has its own roost.
To start the griffon quest you must first complete the Path of Fire Story journal. A springer with the high jump mastery and 250g are required as well.
Obtained after killing the Legendary Corrupted Facet Boss Bounty. The bounty can be obtained at Destiny’s Gorge Waypoint. [&BJMKAAA=] The boss will spawn northeast of Destiny’s Gorge by the Maculate Fringe.
This is gained at the end of an event chain. You must talk to Second Spear Nayrim in Diviner’s Reach to begin it. [&BGsKAAA=] She is not always there, but when she is you can find her by the small pool on the east side of the town. Usually she will spawn some time after the town defense event.
You must finish an event chain for this item. The event begins by talking to Field Foreman Erran in Palawa’s Grace if the event is ready. [&BJAKAAA=] Once the escort finishes at the Deadhouse you must do a reasonably difficult event. [&BP4JAAA=] This is most definitely advised to do in a group or to advertise in map chat to get others to join.
You need to complete an escort event “Patrol the area near the Mouth of Torment with Redeemer Kossan” from the Order of Shadows camp south of The Darklands Waypoint. [&BKMKAAA=]
You must complete an event in The Warehouse within Vehtendi Academy called “Help First Spear Kitur recover his equipment and escape imprisonment.” [&BA8KAAA=] This takes place in the basement which can be accessed through the headmaster’s office.
After you reach The Tomb of the Primeval Kings, interact with the portal in the very back. [&BIoKAAA=] Once inside the portal you will be in the realm of Kormir. You must obtain 10 pieces of Sunspear Wisdom by killing elite boss mobs and then using the key they drop to open chests hidden around the library.
Anyone else feel that the 250g for the griffon mount is a bit much, I already have the mount myself, but it feels like the same thing as saying oh you need to buy a commander tag to finish a large chunk of pof content.
I don't think it is much. I mean it is not a legendary item. it isnot that much more special than the other mounts. so paying 250 for a unnescarery special item, does not seem that bad.
I think it was fine. 250 gold isn't expensive.Would be stupid to have pvp achievement for something that is pve only.
You literally do not need the griffon. Price point is moot. That seems to be the point every one forgets.Do you need legendary weapons or armor? NoDo you need collections? NoDo you need a tag? No.
It's actually a lot easier to get compared to flying mounts in other MMOs. I'd say be happy they didn't make the requirements higher.
The griffon is a vanity mount and not a necessary one like the others. So yes, 250 gold is a perfectly fine price.
I completely disagree, the griffon provides convenience for some of the content but is not needed to do anything except for griffon adventures. The griffon therefore indubitably is a prestige mount. 250g is still really cheap considering its a long term goal.
