You perform all of the responsibilities that are not performed by directors or assigned by you to other staff members, while you can also join your coaches on the training ground to take part in training your players.

Coaching badges and I believe increasing your reputation will also help them a bit, although it could just be the experience of managing rather then your reputation

I'm 2 months into a job doing the same thing as you, i.e. no badges and Sunday League playing experience. I haven't taken any coaching courses (my board won't let me) but my attacking coaching attribute has gone up by 1 point as well as my youngster knowledge. So it looks like both sides can increase just through experience.

For both sets of stats, are the increases random or do they relate to your actions? I.e. are you more likely to improve defensive coaching if you spend time coaching defensive positioning etc?

Possibly. My attack coaching attribute went up a point and I am assigned to coach that area.

I think it's your managing experience I gave myself a continental pro license but I've done my save for about 2 seasons where I've seen some of my stats improve a lot

Is the only reason to not put them both to full straight away for the realism? Im starting in league 2 and have just ticked the boxes so it automatically sets how a manager at that club would usually be qualified/playing experience but i could have just set it to max.
