Started in 2007, the FedEx Cup is awarded to the golfer who has accumulated the most points by the end of the PGA Tour. Points are determined by finishes in PGA Tout tournaments throughout the year. The PGA Tour ends with four play-off tournaments that willow down the top 125 golfers in the first play-off tournament down to the top 30 for the Tour Championship. The golfer with the most points at the end of the Tour Championship wins the FedEx Cup and a multimillion dollar bonus. Starting in 2019, the format has changed to 3 playoff events, ending with the Tour CHampionship that awards players a starting score that reflects their standings in the FedEx Cup points list. This assures that from 2019 onwards the winner of the Tour Championship is also the FedEx Cup winner.
Winning the FedEx Cup not only comes with the title of FedEx Cup Champion, but a nice payout as well. In 2020, Dustin Johnson collected a cool $15 million for capturing the title. In all, a bonus pool of $60 million is distributed among the 30 players who reach the Tour Championship, the final stage of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
